Border Gardening

"Border Gardening" is intended to represent the Buffalo Horticulture ideals as a "Design and Build Landscape Construction and Garden Care Service". It is soft, or hopes to be, and writes with a voice for those in search of value(s) in and from the landscape.

Job Profile (2015): Butterblock's Shop

Picture

The trick with Butterblock's pop-up storefront was that it was temporary, only occupying the space through the 2015 holiday season. and that, well, the budget was $0. That's zero. Zero dollars. :)
We're all friends.
So, I organized together a 'rough draft' so to speak in the warehouse first collecting together any pieces of interest I could find. The two tall Junipers with root balls were part of a set of five I bought as "end of season clearance" at Russell's Nursery in Amherst. One of these you will find planted in a container on the West side corner of Elmwood and Bidwell. A couple baskets full of Arborvitae are #2 containers from Home Depot's November clearout. The Brown ornamental grasses we removed from a job and reused them here and all the other plant material was cut - Sedum, Holly, Alianthus branches, Asters, etc. Butterblock had the bushel baskets from their runs and dealings with local farmers, I cut off some pallets and stacked them, and found the green painted barrel in a back room of the warehouse (I informally borrowed it).
All the Arborvitae were planted in one of our community gardens. All the Junipers have survived. We pulled up in a truck at the end of February and loaded everything back to the warehouse. Goal obtained - Budget zero.
